It ain’t the guns or armament, or the money they can pay, It’s the close co-operation that makes them win the day;
It ain’t the individual, nor the army as a whole,
But everylastin’ teamwork of every bloomin’ soul.”
J. Mason Knox
Despite this is my personal site, its key emphasis to also raise the profile of the units that I research and write upon, to allow family members, veterans, historians and researchers a rough footing of information, photographs and narrative to base further work of. In short much of what will not go into my finished books will end up here.
It is simply not feasible, or cost effective to include hundreds of photos in finished publications, and multi-media items, such as interviews or footage of combat cannot translate well to paper.
On this page the general history of 53rd Welsh Division is covered, along with a very brief chronology of events from 1939-45. On the subsequent sub pages, looking a the Brigades, and Support Arms, there are photographs, quotes and additional short histories of the units involved.
For the full story please purchase my history, 'Jocks, Dragons and Sospans' which follows 53rd Welsh Division through Normandy as the first in an exciting new Divisional history series.
There have been several histories of 53rd Welsh Division since the end of the war, and numerous smaller Battalion and Regimental histories.
